Edge Networking
Edge Networking Is the Next Phase of 5G

Data demands continue to grow requiring performance scaling for seamless transition in edge networking. According to a recent LightReading survey, almost 60% of global operators expect to implement RAN virtualization and half of those surveyed will implement network slicing. Edge networking solutions can be used for network slicing to achieve independent services from the same infrastructure. Programmable network elements are needed for integration into the open management and orchestration standards for E2E operation with RAN and MEC elements.
What Is Edge Networking?
Edge networking has two critical points: access at the cell site and aggregation of all cell sites in that general region. Information is transported between RAN, MEC, and Core elements in the midhaul and backhaul that predominantly uses IP routers in a hub and spoke or ring type of topology at up to 400 GbE line rates.
